We combine a morning experiencing sub-tropical rainforest, waterfalls, black ironsand beach and Tasman Sea sightseeing with a great winery restaurant lunch, main course open menu, and tastings (included) followed by an afternoon of wine tasting at a further three family owned wineries. Spend the morning soaking up views of our lush sub tropical Waitakere rainforest with Tasman Sea and city panoramas. Experience the isolated beauty and splendour of KareKare’s, magnetic, black iron-sand surf beach pounded by the Tasman Sea (location for The Piano & Deadlands movies, TV’s Zena & Hercules). Take a short walk to a beautiful series of waterfalls. See native Kauri, Rimu & Pohutokawa trees, Manuka bush, Nikau palms and Punga ‘Silver Fern’ trees. Visit the Arataki Heritage Centre and see the stunning 360 degree Tasman to Pacific views from the Waitakere ranges summit, weather permitting.
After all that fresh air & exercise next stop is lunch. Time to sit, relax & enjoy your ‘open menu main course’ lunch (included) along with wine tasting at a small, family run award winning winery restaurant.
In the afternoon, sample your choice of gold medal and trophy winning wines on a personalised wine tasting tour of an interesting mix of three family owned & operated winery/vineyards. Because we don’t all like the same wines, this tour does not always visit the same wineries in the afternoon. We do our best to use our nearly 20 years of experience to select the wineries available on the day based on your tastes and interests.
You’re returned to your city accommodation around 4.30PM-5.00PM.
Please note this tour involves approx’ 45 minutes beach & track walking suitable for people with an average fitness level.
Please wear comfortable shoes or sandals and appropriate clothes for the weather on the day, ‘layers’ is a good idea.
